We believe that strong families make strong communities and strong communities make strong countries.
We believe that families are strong when there is a husband, a wife, and multiple children. Families are strong when only one parent has to work to provide for the family. Families are strong when the work that the parent performs is meaningful and the burden of work is not a stress on the family.
We believe communities are strong when families feel safe letting their kids play with other kids in their neighborhood. We believe communities are strong when they are clean and green. Communities are strong when members of the community have a stake in the community. Communities are strong when families trust each other.
We believe countries are strong when they have a collective purpose. We believe countries are strong if their communities feel pride in their country, their history, and their future. We believe countries are strong when they can defend themselves. We believe countries are strong when they have strong economies and can produce abundance for their citizens.
We believe that the United States of America has a fundamentally sound Constitution. We believe that the well-intentioned delegation of responsibility to bureaucracies has corrupted the country, begetting cronyism between government bureaucracy and corporate bureaucracy.
We suggest the following changes:
The immediate abolition of government agencies. Agencies will subsequently be recreated to administer the following:
Department of Energy. Cheap energy is everything: with it nothing is impossible, without it nothing is possible. The prioritization of economically feasible clean energy include nuclear fission and accelerated research into fusion should be top priority. The re-creation of our energy grid to sustain massive consumption. This consumption will come from battery-operated heavy machinery such as electric vehicles. The illegalization and enforcement of incorrectly disposed waste by companies and individuals
Department of Infrastructure. An immediate focus on housing construction. The cultivation of high-tech engineering (physical) labor and the onshore production of physical capital. This cultivation may occur via subsidy, tariffs, or simply through public campaigns designed to promote the production of physical capital. Mandatory work or wealth for those under 65: proof of employment or assets will be required (which can be automated). If no proof is given, the individual will be drafted into performing public service (planting trees, cleaning trash, driving trucks). Allowance will be made for physical or mental handicap.
Department of Health and Finance. An immediate focus on automation. Finance and healthcare are two of the largest drags on the economy with upwards of a quarter of output spent on these two areas alone. This has to change.
Department of Education. Removing public subsidy for all universities except for a select few. These select few will be a “finishing school” and will be a catalyst for innovation. A government-administered rigorous examination will be required for entry. Some graduates will stay in the universities. Some will go into the private sector. Some will go into civil service. Some will be officers in the armed forces. Redesign of school curricula to support ingenuity, independence, and critical thinking. The expectation is that high-school will be sufficient training for all but the most demanding jobs. Mandatory school attendance. If school is not attended, the family is subject to expulsion. For existing high crime areas, provide a publicly supported option for boarding school.
Armed Forces. Mandatory armed forces for males from 18-20 years. This will teach discipline and love of country, and provide the manpower required to defend the country. There will be no exceptions except for historically relevant conscientious objectors. Allowance will be made for physical or mental handicap. Mandatory nursing for females 18-20 years. This will teach discipline, care, and technical work. It will also provide the manpower required to take care of the health of the population. Allowance will be made for physical or mental handicap.
Only private-sector citizens with substantial fiscal and cultural stake in the country will be given the franchise. Only those who have attended a university will be eligible for office.
The legalization of all drugs but the criminalization of public use, with the harshest penalties. While drugs have negative externalities, illegal drugs have even more negative externalities. With an increase in responsibility that this society will provide, drug use should fall to a non-issue.
The illegalization (but not criminalization) of extra-marital sexual relations. Shotgun weddings are the law.
The illegalization of gay marriage
The illegalization of birth control, excepting vasectomy for families who have at least four children or where the wife is over thirty-five.
The illegalization of hedonistic art. This includes the normalization of extra-martial relations in movies or television. However, there will be no enforcement mechanism outside of the existing MPAA. Any citizen can sue if they believe that they have been subjected to illegal art, and a judge will arbitrate. For those who think art must be free in order to be art, I suggest that in our libertine era no great art has been created, while in the “repressive” era of the pre 20th century great art was commonplace.
Complete freedom of egress with no penalty
Immigration will be allowed in order to keep a working-age population growth at 3% a year. Those seeking employment will be required to take an oath of loyalty and must take an entrance exam. The top performers on this exam will be given permanent residency or citizenship.
Besides being intrinsically common-sense and moral, these changes will have massive positive externalities, including the following:
An immediate drop in crime as at-risk youth are removed from high crime areas and given a real education.
A longer-term drop in crime as every citizen is given responsibility and goes through a process of discipline.
An increase in meaning: families will be tightly knit. Labor will have meaningful work that has clear objectives (eg, the creation of a clean, modern, energy grid rather than paper-pushing in a cubicle).
Higher standards of living with cheaper housing and cheaper energy.
No student debt
Drop in mental illness and subsequent drop in crimes stemming from mental instability
Dramatic drop in partisanship.
Improved governance
